Science and Mathematics teachers from the state of Oklahoma attended a 15-day summer workshop entitled “The Mathematics and Science of Upland and Lowland Riparian Forest Ecosystems”.  The workshop was attended by eighty (80) 6^th – 12^th grade teachers from 15 school districts in S.W. Oklahoma.  The workshop was held at the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and in Beaver’s Bend State Park. 

The summer project was based on authentic inquiry using technology to investigate Riparian Ecosystems.  Teachers used graphing calculators with probes and GPS systems to conduct water, soil, and vegetation analysis to accumulate data on riparian areas.  The teachers used computers and video equipment to produce instructional “How To” DVD’s for their students and other teachers on graphing the information they collected.  Each instructional video meets or exceeds the Oklahoma P.A.S.S. objectives for math and science curriculum standards. 

The Math and Science workshop was a cooperative learning project by the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, Lawton Public Schools, and Cameron University.
