As part of an effort to make refuge resources more available to teachers on a self-help basis, the refuge hosted a Project Learning Tree and Wild Workshop for 16 teachers from Washington County Schools.  The program's main objective was to introduce teachers to the refuge's resources and facilities, in hopes that they return on their own to conduct activities from the two curriculums with their students. Washington County superintendents, principals, State Department of Forestry, DOMTAR Mill, Maine Tree Foundation, Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and the refuge worked together to provide this program.  The workshop was a first step in bringing teachers to the refuge to make use of several buildings, trails and research activities to enhance the children's educational experience.

To date, two schools have returned to the refuge for conducting activities. The refuge plans to provide more programs for teachers both at Moosehorn and Aroostook Refuges.
