On January 25 the Oklahoma Scenic Byways Advisory Council voted to expand the Wichita Mountains Scenic Byway to include 15 miles of additional refuge roads.  Presently, the route is designated as a State Byway.  The Refuge is working closely with the Oklahoma Department of Transportation in preparation to nominate the Wichita Mountains Scenic Byway as a National Scenic Byway in 2008.
