Journal Entry   Back Attwater Prairie Chicken NWR Southwest Region, September 29, 2006 Print Friendly Version This year's Attwater's prairie chicken (APC) release continued through September.  So far, 150 of 162 captive-bred Attwater's have been released on the Attwater Prairie Chicken National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) (111) and the Nature Conservancy's Texas City Prairie Preserve (39), making it the largest APC release since the program started in 1996.  An additional 12 birds will be released on the refuge before mid-October.  Overall survival of these birds at both locations by the end of September stood at 78% and 84% on APC NWR alone.  Contact Info: Martin Valdez, 505-248-6599, martin_valdez@fws.gov Send to: From: Notes: ..........................................................................................
