Print Friendly Version
A Team Leader of the Southwest Endangered Species Act Team, from the New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office led and hosted an interagency workshop on the Endangered Species Act in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from January 23 through 27, 2006.  The purposes of these workshops were to provide instruction and tools needed to prepare biological assessments, biological evaluations, and similar documents that initiate section 7 consultation under the Endangered Species Act with the Fish and Wildlife Service.  The Southwest Endangered Species Act Team of the Southwest Strategy and the National Conservation Training Center prepared and updated teaching materials for the course.  The training cadre consisted of biologists from the New Mexico Ecological Services Field Office, Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), the Navy from the Department of Defense (DOD), and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).  The Assistant Area Manager of Reclamation’s Albuquerque Area Office welcomed participants and conveyed the importance of the workshops for implementing the Endangered Species Act.  These workshops received partial funding from BLM’s Arizona State Office, and logistical support was provided by the Arizona Ecological Services Field Office.  A total of 70 biologists completed the workshops and represented numerous agencies, including Native American Tribes, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, other State agencies, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Wildlife Services, Forest Service, National Park Service, BLM, Reclamation, NRCS, DOD, and private consultants.
