Congressional Contact: Congressional Staff Get Tour of Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge
10 Region, November 14, 2005
Print Friendly Version

During the first two weeks of November, Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge gave site tours to the project managers for New Hampshire Senators Judd Gregg, John Sununu and Rep. Jeb Bradley.

On November 1, Project Director Tim Lyons from Senator Gregg’s office visited the refuge and was given a tour of the former Weapons Storage Area and wetland impoundments on the refuge. On November 8, Projects and Outreach Manager Periklis Karoutas from Rep. Bradley’s office was given a tour of the refuge and on November 14, Projects Assistant Sheridan Brown of Sen. Sununu’s office was also given a tour of the refuge. Topics discussed during each tour included a general overview of the refuge, management and public use programs, volunteer programs and special maintenance projects. Also discussed were the ongoing issues with nesting upland sandpipers on Pease International Airport and managing habitat for the Federally endangered Karner blue butterfly around the Concord Airport in conjunction with Federal Aviation Administration requirements for maintaining vegetation in the immediate vicinity of airport runways.

Sheridan Brown of Sen. Sununu’s office was also particularly interested in assisting with cooperative efforts to continue removal of buildings and bunkers in the former WSA.
