CBFO Develops Partnership with MD DNR for Fish Passage Projects
Northeast Region, June 1, 2005
Print Friendly Version
The Chesapeake Bay Field Office's (CBFO) Stream Habitat Assessment and Restoration Program (SHARP) has entered into a partnership agreement with the Maryland Department of Natural Resources to facilitate fish passage projects within the State of Maryland. The agreement will focus on developing projects that remove barriers to fish passage by restoring natural channel systems. Under the first task in the agreement, CBFO is developing a bid package for and will supervise removal of a dam on Octoraro Creek in Cecil County, Maryland. Octoraro Creek flows into the Susquehanna River below the Conowingo Dam. Removal of the dam will open up nineteen miles of diadromous fish habitat to American and hickory shad, river herring, American eel, and other riverine fish species in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
