Journal Entry   Back PPC predictive model refinement Southwest Region, February 28, 2005 Print Friendly Version Refinements to a previously developed pima pineapple cactus (PPC) GIS predictive model were completed. This model is used to improve the efficiency of field PPC surveys and increase the rate of discovery of this small cactus. Refinements to the model were accomplished, in part, to the incorporation of newly acquired high resolution 10 meter digital elevation model (DEM) GIS data. The output from this improved model were plotted on 22 cartographic quality, 1:10000 scale and geographically referenced custom field maps developed with GIS. Each of these maps displays the zones of PPC probabilities of occurrence within each burn unit area scheduled for prescribed fires in 2005 and 2006 burn seasons. The field maps provide field crews the necessary information to implement ongoing PPC surveys.
