Journal Entry   Back Oil Spill in Pecos River Investigated Southwest Region, December 30, 2004 Print Friendly Version The Service responded to a large spill of crude oil (about 5,000 barrels) in the Pecos River during the last week of December. The spill occurred a short distance above the IH 10 crossing in Crockett County, Texas. The large spill was due to a break in a pipeline owned by the Plains All American Pipeline, LP. The crude oil traveled over 800 ft. from the pipeline into the river where it was eventually contained by a concrete road crossover about 1.6 miles below the oil's point of entry. Removal operations by the company have recovered over 3,000 barrels of oil in the river, and impacts to Service trust resources were limited to two oiled birds.
