New Drivers Tame The Pendill's Creek Fish Hog

The Pendills Creek NFH ?fish hog? is actually a diesel Sterling truck with a 3,000 gallon fish hauling tank on the bed of the chassis. The big tank is divided into three separate compartments, each of which is outfitted with micropore stones for oxygen, fresh-flo aerators for water circulation, and its own gated outlet to release the fish. The fish hog has an integral part in the lake trout distribution season, and hauls yearling lake trout during the months of April, May and June from Pendills Creek NFH, Jordan River NFH, and Iron River NFH to the stocking vessel MV Togue. All three NFH's produce lake trout for the USFWS goal of lake trout restoration in the Great Lakes.

Pendills Creek will soon have four drivers ready to drive the fish hog for the 2004 lake trout distribution season. Two new drivers will be out handling the fish hog this spring distribution season; Tracy Roessner ? fisheries biologist at Pendills Creek NFH; and James Anderson ? fisheries biotech at Sullivan Creek NFH. Both have obtained their class ?B? CDL licenses and are currently being trained on the use of the Sterling truck by mechanic Johnny Shuman and assistant manager Crystal LeGault. Both Anderson and Roessner have been involved in numerous fish distribution trips in past years, driving smaller fish hauling trucks.
