This enormous partnership of about 20-25 people from Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, La Crosse FRO, Genoa NFH and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers created 80 mussel cages in only two days with lots of preparation welding and sawing by Jeff Lockington and Dan Kumlin of Genoa NFH. Mussel cages consist of metal caging pop riveted to welded steel frames. The mussel cages will be used this year to hold largemouth bass until juvenile Higgins? eye mussels drop off of their gills to increase future Higgins? eye pearlymussel populations.
