The Orion Society

The Orion Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization supported by donations from individuals, families and foundations, and corporate and government grants. The Orion Society’s mission is to inform, inspire, and engage individuals and grassroots organizations in becoming a significant cultural force for healing nature and community. We accomplish that mission by way of our programs, this and other websites, and gatherings of people brought together to explore the important issues of the day.

Our publications and programs include:

Orion Magazine
“America’s finest environmental magazine” (Boston Globe) is an influential forum for re-imagining humanity’s relationship to nature, culture, and place, featuring America’s foremost writers and artists.

Orion Grassroots Network
The Orion Grassroots Network connects and empowers groups working for positive social and environmental change across North America and beyond.

Grassroots Jobsource

The Grassroots Jobsource lists hundreds of great jobs, internships, and AmeriCorps positions with members of the Orion Grassroots Network.

Orion Education
The Orion Society has undertaken a number of educational initiatives, including the Nature Literacy Series, sample curricula, resource lists, and offers ways for educators and parents to use Orion magazine articles as learning resources.

Orion Gatherings
Orion often brings together extraordinary thinkers and activists to discuss the pressing issues of the day, and as often as possible bring our readers and members to the events as well.
