Student Chapters Have All the Fun!

Why should your university have a Student AAV Chapter? Because there are so many benefits!
The benefits of Student Chapter Membership include:
• Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery, the official peer-reviewed journal of the Association of Avian Veterinarians (4 per year)
• Association of Avian Veterinarians’ Newsletter (12 per year), with at least one issue dedicated to students
• AAV Clinical Forum (4 per year)
• Annual Membership Directory (one per year)
• Proceedings of the AAV Annual Conference and Expo (one hard copy per year)
• One free registration to the AAV Annual Conference and Expo
Students who hold individual student membership ($25 per year) (with or without a Student Chapter membership) are entitled to the following and all of the above (excluding free registration to the AAV Annual Conference and Expo and the Annual Conference hard copy, which must be ordered separately):
•Entry in the Student Manuscript Competition with a $500 award and complimentary registration to the Annual Conference and Expo
• Special Student rates for lodging and registration at the Annual Conference and Expo
• Opportunities to assist in the hands-on laboratories offered to veterinarians at the AAV Annual Conference and Expo
•Access to the Members area of the AAV Website.
• Access to the current on-line conference proceedings
Each veterinary school, with or without a Student Chapter, may apply for a Student Scholarship Program for a student participating in externships involving avian species (one per college, $100/week for maximum of 4 weeks)
The AAV is The Source of avian information for veterinarians and students. Enclosed is an application for Student Chapter membership. It is highly recommended that a faculty member act as an advisor and provide their address and contact information for dissemination of membership materials and to provide continuity of membership from year to year. For more information feel free to contact the AAV Central Office at 561-393-8901 or contact Dr. Kemba Marshall, the AAV Veterinary School Liaison, at petagrees@yahoo.com.

Does Your Veterinary School Offer Clinical Avian and Exotic Animal Rotations?

If not, then you may be interested in the clinical externships available to veterinary students at various facilities across the country. Many are on a first come, first serve basis and students enrolled at each particular school have first priority on signing up for the rotation. If interested, please contact the individual school or facility.
