Research Project:
Support of the Biotechnology Research and Development Corporation (Brdc)
Project Number: 0500-00035-003-02
Project Type:
Grant
Start Date: Oct 10, 2002
End Date: Sep 30, 2007
Objective:
Congressionally mandated grant funds are used to support research at NCAUR
and University of Illinois to develop technologically more efficient
bioproduction systems capable of producing a greater diversity of useful
products. Programs focus on cellular and subcellular biology,
immobilization technology, separation and harvesting technologies and
sensors, process control, and rapid screening technologies.
Approach:
Such systems an anaerobic, mixed culture, and continuous fermentation and
fluidized beds of immobilized enzymes will be investigated in search of
advances in bioprocessing efficiency and novel bioconversions. Diverse
microbes and enzymes there from will be investigated for their usefulness
in these systems, as will innovative sensors and process controls and
separation and harvesting methods. 11/92 changed agreement # from 59-32U4-
