Local Climate and Energy Program
By implementing clean energy strategies, local governments can reduce emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases, lower energy costs, and improve the reliability and security of their energy system. Clean energy can also spur local economic development, improve public health and quality of life, and help communities meet sustainability and green building goals—all while providing opportunities for leadership and recognition. The Local Climate and Energy Program is an informational resource network that supports local governments' efforts to use clean energy strategies to advance a number of community priorities.
What Is EPA Doing to Assist Local Governments?
EPA is coordinating among federal, state, and NGO programs to make available a comprehensive database of planning, policy, technical, analytical, and information resources for municipal governments, and developing a guide to Clean Energy Strategies for Local Governments. The program also highlights local government clean energy actions that reduce GHG emissions to recognize and help others replicate successes.
EPA currently offers many clean energy programs, resources, and tools that can assist local governments.

How Can My Local Government Get Involved?
The Local Climate and Energy Program is an information-sharing resource accessible to all local governments and other interested parties. In addition, the program can help municipalities determine whether to formally join one or more of EPA's partnership programs that support clean energy best practices to take advantage of the additional resources available to partners.
