Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act Reports to Congress on State Performance
State profiles for each of the core indicators (academic attainment, attainment of diplomas or degrees, placement and retention in further education or employment, and participation and completion of non-traditional training programs) for secondary and postsecondary programs. Also included are federal allocations, enrollment by gender, and a brief description of program improvement and data quality efforts for each state.

Adult Education and Family Literacy Act Report to Congress on State Performance
State profiles for each of the core indicators (literacy skill levels, attainment of diplomas or degrees, placement and retention in further education or employment, and participation and completion of non-traditional training programs) for adult education and literacy activities. Includes data that highlights the national performance picture and each state's statistical profile.

Research and Data

The General Accounting Office (GAO) released Community Colleges and One-Stop Centers Collaborate to Meet 21st Century Workforce Needs, a report that examines 1) how community colleges meet the workforce training needs of their communities; 2) what community colleges do to integrate with the nation's one-stop system; 3) the conditions or practices that enhance or impede these efforts; and 4) the actions Labor and Education have taken to encourage linkages between community colleges and the workforce investment system, including one stops.

Adult Education Incentive Grant Award: Summary of Uses for Program Year 2004 [downloadable files] MS Word (147 K)
The U.S. Department of Education, in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Labor, recently announced that 23 States were eligible to apply for incentive awards authorized by section 503 of the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) based on their FY 2004 performance. Section 503 of WIA requires States receiving incentives to exceed performance targets for workforce investment, adult education, and vocational education programs. A total of $16.5 million was available. This summary describes planned State activities that are innovative, comprehensive and coordinated, targeted to improving performance, and that promote cooperation and collaboration.

Summary of State Leadership Activities
This summary provides highlights from a review of fiscal year 2004 annual narrative reports that describe how each State uses State leadership funds awarded under the Adult Education and Family Literacy Act (AEFLA, PL 105-220). The purpose of this summary is to respond to State and local requests about what leadership activities other States are funding. The report is not exhaustive, but provides an overview of how States are spending their leadership funds.
