Founded in 1982, the Whittier Institute is the diabetes research and patient care arm of ScrippsHealth in California. Since 1994, The Whittier Institute has operated a joint program with the University of California, San Diego. The core of the collaborative effort is The Whittier Research Program, which currently supports basic research of 18 Principal Investigators and two clinical trials that will enroll upwards of 750 patients. The Institute is supported by the Scripps Foundation for Medicine and Science.
