The Fogarty International Center (FIC) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) was established in 1968 to advance health through international scientific cooperation and to serve as the organizational locus for NIH international activities. In support of its mission to improve the health of the people of the United States and other nations through the promotion of international cooperation and advanced study in the biomedical sciences, the FIC fosters research partnerships between U.S. scientists and foreign counterparts through grants, fellowships, exchange awards and international agreements.
