Research Project:
Geospatial Watershed Modeling for Improved Watershed Assessments
Location: Southwest Watershed Research
Project Number: 5342-13610-010-06
Project Type:
Specific Cooperative Agreement
Start Date: Sep 10, 2006
End Date: Aug 31, 2011
Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research is to develop a suite of tools using geographic information systems, and hydrologic models for improved watershed assessment capabilities including the treatment of best management practices. Formerly 5342-13610-007-00D. (03/2007).
Approach:
Combine the power and capability of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with ARS distributed watershed models by enhancing both watershed models and to the Automated Geospatial Watershed Assessment (AGWA) tool developed in the prior SCA. AGWA will be migrated from ARCView due to limited vendor support to ARCGIS. In addition, a prototype of an internet-based version of AGWA (e.g. dotAGWA) will be developed. In addition to migrating the basic functions of AGWA, the ARS watershed models (SWAT and KINEROS), will be enhanced by adding the ability to rapidly treat a variety of common best management practices. AGWA will also be expanded to parameterize the new model capabilities of the coupled KINEROS and OPUS models. Throughout the project, testing and verification will be carried out as well as application in a variety of watershed environments. In addition, manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed journals will be developed throughout the project. Documents SCA with U. of AZ, School of Natural Resources.
