Shasta Lake Visitor Information Center

Located 10 miles north of Redding, on Interstate 5, the Shasta Lake Visitor Information Center has been providing a wide variety of visitor information, not only for travelers on the I-5 corridor, but for local residents of Shasta County, since it was first opened in 1981. 

(Photo) The Shasta Lake Visitor Information Center as viewed from Interstate 5.The visitor center specializes in information about the Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area, but they also offer information about the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, other National Forest in Northern California, nearby State and National Parks and Regional Information.

In addition, the visitor center is also a Branch Store for Discover Your Northwest (DYN).

Discover Your Northwest maintains active partnerships with public land agencies in five states - California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington.  DYN works closely with these land agencies by providing funds to support their interpretive missions and visitor experiences.

Hirz Mountain Lookout Rental Reservations

Hirz Mountain Lookout is the latest of five historic lookout/cabins, located on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest,  that have been made available for rental.

Samwel Cave Reservations
and Permits

Samwel Cave opens out from a precipitous limestone crag overlooking a northern portion of Shasta Lake in what was formerly the McCloud River Canyon. The main entrance to the cave lies 355 feet above the river bed and 1,270 feet above sea level.

Where we are located:

The Shasta Lake Visitor Center is located in Mt. Gate, near the full service communities of Redding and Shasta Lake City, and is in the same complex as the Shasta Lake Ranger Station, which is the primary office for management of the Shasta Unit of the Whiskeytown - Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area. 

  *Hours of Operation:

Peak Season (Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend)

8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. - Wed. - Sun.

Off Season (Mid-September through Mid-May)

Closed for the season
