Food Animal Integrated
Research (FAIR) 2002
Food Animal Integrated Research (FAIR)
2002, a policy document serving as
a road map to guide future research, education,
and extension activities in the animal
industry, is the outcome of the second
national conclave convened to establish
consensus on animal agriculture research
and education priorities for the 21st century.
CSREES was heavily involved in leading this
national conclave. More than 250 leading
animal scientists, farmers, ranchers, environmentalists,
animal welfare proponents, commodity group
representatives, government staff including
CSREES, rural advocates, and agribusiness
and food service representatives met. They
determined the most pressing research and
education needs of the animal industry that
are economically competitive, environmentally
friendly, and socially acceptable.
Researchers, educators, and extension specialists
are using the FAIR
2002 policy document to guide their efforts.
