Alfred Christiansen was the Principal Investigator in a $150,000 grant from the USDA National Research Initiative for Cooperative Grants Program won by him, Douglas Gardner at the University of Maine, and Charles Frazier at Virginia Tech for research into the mechanism(s) whereby hydroxymethylated resorcinol primer, discovered at FPL, substantially enhances the durability of adhesive bonds to some wood substrates.
