Fisheries

The Department of Fisheries and Allied Aquacultures has researched, teaching, and extension responsibilities in three primary areas: aquaculture, fisheries management and aquatic ecology. Aquaculture is the farming of aquatic plants and animals. Fisheries management involves the management of wild populations of plants and animals in aquatic environments from the headwater streams to the open ocean. Aquatic ecology is the study of the relationship between aquatic organisms and their biological, chemical, and physical environment. Extension specialists, area aquaculturists, and county agents have extension programs in these areas.
