Research Project: COMPARATIVE GENOMICS, WIDENING NARROW GENETIC BACKGROUND AND MINING FRUIT QUALITY GENES IN CUCURBITS

Location: Charleston, South Carolina

Project Number: 6659-21000-013-07
Project Type: Reimbursable

Start Date: Nov 07, 2007
End Date: Aug 31, 2010

Objective:
Build a framework of common DNA markers that can be useful in identifying important genes aross genomes of important cucurbit species (watermelon, melon and cucumber).

Approach:
Develop cDNA libraries and expressed sequence tags (ESTs) for important cucurbit species (watermelon, melon and cucumber). Develop EST-based DNA markers and use them in genetic linkage mapping of these important cucurbit genomes.
