Earthquake Trace Data

TRACE DATA - For engineers, seismologists, and seismologists-in-training. Trace data consists of digital samples from seismometers. Sample rates are usually 50-100 samples/sec, and the files are large. File formats vary, use appropriate software.

  • IRIS Data Management Center - Archives all PNSN Trace Data
    1980 - Present (delayed about 6 months)
Caveat: These files are in SEED format, and may be large.

  • Older trace data (before 1980) is available in analog format archived in the UW Library Special Collections. These include both paper helicorder records and film devolocorder records.
INSTRUMENTAL STRONG MOTION PARAMETERS - Available for larger quakes since 1997 STRONG MOTION DATA FOR 2/28/2001 NISQUALLY EARTHQUAKE
