The value of U.S. exports of total essential oils is headed for another record year. U.S. exports of essential oils during October-June 2001/02 are running 6 percent ahead of last year's pace. At this rate, the value for the fiscal year (FY) 2002 will approach $715 million. The categories in the total with the sharpest rises are mixtures of odoriferous substances, peppermint oil, and spearmint oil, rising 10, 22, and 33 percent, respectively. The European Union (EU) is the largest market for U.S. exports of essential oils, followed by Canada, Japan, and Mexico.

USDA Launches Production, Supply, and Demand (PSD) Database Site

The Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) announced a new online database Web site that provides current and historical USDA data on production, supply, and distribution of agricultural commodities for the United States and key producing and consuming countries.
