MSU Parent Hotline

The parent hotline is a one-stop resource that offers free direct assistance to parents and family members. The First Year Initiative (FYI) program staffs the parent hotline Monday - Friday from 8:00 am -5:00 pm. The helpful staff is available to answer questions, connect you or your student with campus resources, and discuss student concerns. Academic Advising Center

The Academic Advising Center in Reid 418 is open to all undergraduate students at MSU. Professional advisors are available to help students 1) explore their academic strengths and interests, 2) choose a degree program suited to their personal and career goals, and 3) achieve success in their academic pursuits. AAC advisors can help students who are:

• exploring major options
• transitioning between majors
• completing CORE 2.0 requirements
• planning a course schedule for next semester
• transferring from other institutions
• interested in majors not offered at MSU
• experiencing limited access to departmental advising
• conditionally admitted to MSU
• seeking (or have been denied) admission to competitive degree programs
• interested in programs for academic enhancement or support
• enrolled in University Studies
• majoring in Liberal Studies or American Studies

The Academic Advising Center is open 8:30-4:30, Monday-Friday by walk-in or appointments. Call 994-3532, or come to Reid 418.

Students-in-Transition Advisor

The Students-in-Transition Advisor specializes in helping students who start out in one major and later decide they want to change, or those who have been denied admission to competitive degree programs. The Students-in-Transition Advisor can help ease the transition by helping students plan a course of study that is a better fit for them individually and assisting them in integrating the courses they have already taken into a new major. Judi Beckendorf is the Students-in-Transition advisor at MSU. Students can make an appointment with her by calling 994-3532 or stopping by the Academic Advising Center in Reid 418.

Motor Assistance Available for Your Student

The University Police Department provides students, employees, and visitors motor-vehicle assistance.

Call 994-2121 anytime and one of our officers will assist your son or daughter with:

• Access to locked vehicles
• Jump-starting dead batteries
• Weather-related problems
• Calling tow-trucks when necessary
• Other appropriate situations

Safety Escorts are Available

In the interest of the safety of MSU's students, faculty, staff, and visitors, the Police Department has escorts available on campus 24 hours a day. Contact the University Police Department at 994-2121. The Safety Escort program is available to anyone on campus.

Your student can simply call the Police Department and request an escort from any point originating on campus to any other point on campus or a contiguous location to the campus.

Silent Witness

We understand the difficulty people may experience in reporting crimes or incidents of concern to us face-to-face. We offer the Silent Witness Program to anyone who has witnessed, or knows about, a crime committed on campus. You are welcome to send email to switness@montana.edu with information you feel may be useful in keeping your campus safe and secure. It is important that you provide as much detail as to what, who, when, where, and how, as possible. Your identity will be protected to the fullest extent possible.

The Libraries at MSU

The MSU Libraries will provide the research help you need to succeed. The Libraries Web page is your main gateway to information. One-on-one assistance is available for term paper research and other class projects through the Research Assistance Program. Library spaces for learning include group study rooms and quiet reading areas with comfortable seating. There are more than 90 networked computers available in The Libraries. The "Brewed Awakening" coffee bar is a lively gathering place. Stop by and see the myriad resources The Libraries have to offer - and have a latte.
