Our Mission...
The Soil and Plant Analysis Laboratory is part of the Department of Agronomy in the College of Agriculture at Iowa State University. The Laboratory is a public source of soil chemical analysis for fertilizer recommendations used by farmers, horticulturists, extension specialists, and researchers across Iowa. We participate in the North American Proficiency Testing Program and we are a certified Soil Testing Laboratory in Iowa.

In conjunction with researchers in the Department of Agronomy, the Laboratory introduces new procedures such as the Late Spring Soil Nitrate-Nitrogen Test and Corn Stalk Nitrate-Nitrogen Test for corn. The Laboratory will continue to improve and introduce new soil testing procedures. Fertilizer and lime recommendation guidelines are reviewed and updated with new research information to assure clients receive the best recommendations to achieve sustainable productivity goals.
