  • Total Fiji - 837,271
  • Fijians - 475,739
  • Indians - 313,798
  • Others - 47,734

Overseas Merchandise Trade Statistics - August 2008

Provisional data for August 2008 was :

  • total imports FJD336.0 million
  • domestic exports FJD130.9 million
  • total exports FJD187.8 million.
The trade deficit for August 2008 amounted to FJD148.2 million.

The Building Material Price Index [BMPI] for Quarter 3 2008 registered an increase of 3.3 per cent over Quarter 2 2008 [194.9] and stands at 201.3

The All Item Consumer Price Index [CPI] for the month of September, 2008 registered a decline of 0.5 percent over August 2008 [117.9] and now stands at 117.3.

Provisional All Group Index for Quarter 2, 2008 stood at 129.6.

International Flights

The total number of passengers carried by local airlines in quarter 2 2008 was 142,101 in the 550,180 thousand kilometers performed.

Domestic Flights

The total number of passengers carried in quarter 2 2008 was 44,305 in the 6,397 thousand kilometers performed.

Building Statistics - Quarter 2 2008

The total number of Building Permits issued was 271 with a value of $23.1 million. The total number of Completion Certificates issued was 70 with a value of $6.7 million.

Fiji’s Constant Price GDP is provisionally estimated at $2,871.0 million for calendar year 2007.

  • Rooms and Units and Beds available for quarter 4 2007 increased by 1.7% and 1.5% respectively when compared to the same quarter in 2006.

    CENSUS 2007 - The Government Statistician, Mr Timoci Bainimarama has been appointed as the Census Commissioner from 15 February 2007 for the 2007 Census of Population.

    HIES AND EUS REPORTS - The Fiji Islands Bureau of Statistics has launched two surveys reports - 2002-2003 Household Income and Expenditure Survey and 2004-2005 Employment and Unemployment Survey on June 6 2007.

    GENDER ISSUES IN EMPLOYMENT UNDEREMPLOYMENT AND INCOMES IN FIJI
    Dr Wadan Narsey has launched his report on the 11 December 2007, which was funded by the AusAid. He used the Fiji Islands Bureau of Statistics 2004-05 Employment and Unemployment Survey data for this important gender analysis.

    VISITOR STATISTICS - There is serious delay in obtaining data from the Immigration System to compile Visitors and Residents Statistics. As a consequence Visitor Arrival Statistics has been delayed, but attempts are made to have the backlog cleared.
