Historical inauguration falls on day after significant holiday

For some people, the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama is a sign that the country and its race relations are no longer an issue.

Venetria Patton, director of the African American Studies and Research Center, said race relations in America continue to be an issue, despite the upcoming inauguration of a black President.

"I would prefer people to see the election of Obama as a step in the direction of better race relations, but not a signal of eradication of the problem," she said.
