Recreational Activities - Disabled Hunter Access Program
The DHA program is a cooperative effort between the US Forest Service, WDFW,
and the Northeastern Washington Forestry Coalition. The program was established
to provide high quality hunting opportunities on the Colville National Forest
to hunters with disabilities. To qualify, these opportunities must provide
at least two miles of roaded motorized access to big game habitat where general
hunting vehicular travel is restricted.
Registration
Participating hunters in the DHA program must have a state issued disabled
hunters
permit and must register and sign-in in person at one of the Colville National
Forest
offices prior to hunting for the first time. New sign-in procedures require
hunters with
disabilities to sign-in only once during the season. Hunters will be asked
to provide
information about their party and will receive an access permit, maps, and
other
pertinent information. Registration and sign-in begins on August 25 at any
Colville
National Forest office.
DHA Routes
For the 2008 season, existing routes for disabled hunter access are Boundary
Mountain
in Ferry County, and Middle Fork Calispell Creek in Pend Oreille County.
These two
routes will be open to hunters with disabilities and their parties from
September 01 to
November 30, 2008. Also, one draw-only route, Snyder Hill in Pend Oreille
County, will
be open from October 25 to November 02 for those who win the drawing.
