Welcome to the Department of
Food and Resource Economics

The Department of Food and Resource Economics is a unique blend of diverse undergraduate and graduate programs.  With five undergraduate majors and four graduate programs, the department is well positioned to provide students with a variety of educational, professional and supportive experiences.   Our 16-member faculty includes those with expertise in statistics, economics, marketing, policy and education, and each faculty member works closely with our department's students in roles such as course instructor, academic advisor, research supervisor, and mentor.

At the undergraduate level, our programs emphasize practical knowledge and analytical techniques aimed at problem solving in the food and fiber industry, public policy, agricultural education and the environment.  Each major combines economics with computer tools and quantitative analysis along with practical subject matter.  We pride ourselves on excellent teaching and advising with award winning faculty; opportunities for students to get involved in projects and research; and support for internships.  Our graduates pursue a variety of career opportunities in both the private and public sectors; also, many go on to graduate school. Please visit our web pages to learn more about these majors.

At the graduate level we have four separate but related , M.S. degrees: Resource Economics, Operations Research, Agricultural and Technology Education, and Statistics.  Each of these degrees provide's practical skills in data analysis and interpretation along with core subject matter.  Research involves a diverse set of problems such as land use conflicts; international trade; marketing and pricing of biotechnology products; and statistical consulting.  Our graduates are employed in data management and analysis sectors of businesses; government agencies; consulting firms; pharmaceutical companies; and financial institutions.

Our M.S. degrees also provide a solid foundation for students interested in pursuing a Ph.D. program.

The Department of Food and Resource Economics welcomes you and encourages you to explore our web pages to learn more about us. If we can be of any assistance in your search, please let us know.
