Strengthening Alaska's Families and Homes
The Health, Home and Family Development program focuses on many aspects of the home environment. Faculty investigate issues and needs defined by clientele and deliver research-based knowledge in areas such as food (safety, preparation, product development), nutrition, health, energy and housing education (cold and marine climate home building, radon gas, indoor air quality and solar and renewable energy), clothing, management of financial and other resources, child development, and human relationships. Through community outreach, the Health, Home and Family Development program promotes positive change and growth for the family system within the community and the larger society. For example Extension facilitates the Food Stamp Nutrition Education Program (FSNEP), Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) and the Food Cost Survey. Extension agents and specialists also offer information on domestic violence issues, emergency preparedness and consumer issues.
