Academics
> Education Schools
UC’s schools of education are dedicated to
improving the understanding of the processes of development, learning
and teaching and the contexts in which they occur. The work of faculty
and students are grounded in theory as well as practice.
In the past decade, UC schools of education have
forged stronger links with California's K-12 community to help public
schools better respond to rising enrollments, increasing diversity
and the demand for greater accountability. UC education schools
are also involved in professional development for teachers and administrators.

California Teach
UC has launched its 'California Teach' program to put 1,000 new science and math teachers annually into California classrooms.
New Teacher Center
Our nation's schools will hire at least two million new teachers
over the next decade. More than a third of these new teachers leave
the profession within the first three years. The first of its kind,
the New Teacher Center at Santa Cruz is a national resource dedicated
to teacher development and the support of programs and practices
that promote excellence and diversity in America's teaching force.
The Autism Research and Training Center at
Santa Barbara seeks to improve the understanding and treatment of
autism as well as the elementary and secondary education efforts
for children with autism and other severe disabilities.
Also, UC Davis has opened a 135,000-square-foot M.I.N.D.
(Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders) Institute
to study and treat neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism,
Asperger's syndrome, fragile X syndrome, Rett's syndrome, Tourette's
syndrome, dyslexia and attention deficit disorder.
