Publications

The National Wildlife Health Center publishes reports and other documents containing information resulting from its research. These consist of health bulletins, field manuals, fact sheets and other publications.

Disease Emergence and Resurgence: The Wildlife-Human Connection: The USGS National Wildlife Health Center is pleased to announce the publication of Circular 1285 -- Disease Emergence and Resurgence: The Wildlife-Human Connection. This book was prepared in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Major funding support was provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Division of Federal Assistance, Administrative Grant No. AP95-017.

Fact and information sheets are targeted toward wildlife and conservation professionals, yet written in a non-technical style, making them applicable to a general audience. Between 2000 and 2005, NWHC developed over 35 fact/information sheets promoting our science and describing our products. Many of these titles are frequently updated as new information arises.

USGS Wildlife Health Bulletins promote information exchange about significant wildlife health threats and are distributed to natural resource/conservation agencies and others. Originally targeted toward DOI and state conservation agencies, Wildlife Health Bulletins have gained a wider audience because of their popularity in the wildlife, conservation, and public health communities.

The distribution list has broadened to include Public Health veterinarians, DOI Science Advisors, and wildlife health professionals in other agencies. NWHC has the resources and knowledge available to quickly provide crucial information, and develops bulletins when a particular issues calls for timely distribution of accurate information and recommendations.

Originally called Wildlife Health Alerts, the name was changed to Wildlife Health Bulletins in 2004 to reflect the distribution of updates and other information that is of high interest, but not always urgent.

The Field Manual of Wildlife Diseases: General Field Procedures and Diseases of Birds is a revision and expansion of our 1988 Volume 1, Field Guide to Wildlife Diseases and is funded by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Division of Federal Aid, Administrative Grant No. AP95-017.

Quarterly Mortality Reports: The National Wildlife Health Center has produced quarterly mortality reports, which contain information about wildlife mortality events throughout the United States.

Pamphlets: Informational pamphlets prepared by the NWHC.

Press Releases relevant to the NWHC. News Releases are official statements of the USGS.
