Investing in countries from central Europe to central Asia

EBRD and the global financial crisis

The Bank's investments in 2009 will increase to €7 billion. The EBRD has developed crisis response packages and so far 20 such projects worth €800 million have been approved or are under consideration to stimulate businesses affected by the crisis.

Climate change remains a top concern

The EBRD and IFC are investing in the construction of the largest wind farm in eastern Europe. Bulgaria will receive €198 million to construct a wind farm that will help the country promote clean energy and reduce its dependency on fossil fuels.

The EBRD’s Transition Report 2008 shows that investing in education is key to sustained growth in the transition countries. The report calls for greater public spending on education and an enhanced role for the private sector to increase skills in the workforce.

EBRD ranks highly in 2008 Global Accountability Report

The report looks at transparency, participation, evaluation and complaint and response mechanisms of global organisations. The EBRD is the highest-ranked international financial institution and takes second place among organisations assessed by the One World Trust think-tank.
