Balers
account for nearly half of the machine-related injuries on
farms reported to the National Safety Council. Remember these
safety tips when you harvest hay or forage crops this month:
- Never
hand-feed twine into the baler.
- Large
round bales weigh 1,200 to 1,500 pounds and can be difficult
to load or transport. Never drive with a large bale on a
raised front-end loader. The tractor could tip, or the bale
could roll down the arms of the loader.
- Always
lock and block the baler to check, clean, or repair the
machine.
You
can make your harvest season a safe one.
