The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is a federation of 125 national bodies. It promotes standardization and facilitates international exchange of goods and services through the development of technical, scientific, and quality standards. ISO quality standards outline the requirements for quality management systems. Quality management systems standardize an organization's work into an organized and documented system. Quality management systems must support process optimization, quality improvement, cost reduction, development of effective goals, objectives and performance metrics, management of resources, and strategic planning. Stakeholders, shareholders, and management are assured through ongoing internal and third-party audits that an ISO registered system is managed, maintained, and improved. CPHST is actively seeking registration to the ISO quality standards.
Because of the breadth of scientific work conducted within CPHST, the requirements of both the ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 17025 international standards must be adhered to and are included within the CPHST quality management system. Quality Management Systems - Requirements: General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories: To improve your understanding of quality management systems and the ISO international quality standards, the following on-line training courses have been identified.
