Comments sought on proposed Foster Dam road relocation

Portland, Ore-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking public comments on an environmental document regarding proposed relocation and realignment of an existing access road at Foster Dam and Reservoir in Sweet Home, Ore., in Linn County.

The environmental assessment (EA) addresses the impacts associated with work that would close and restore a 580-linear-foot section of Foster Dam Road and construct an additional 400 linear foot section of road. The purpose of the proposed work is to improve access to Foster Reservoir for motor vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians.

As part of its public notice process, the Corps is requesting public review and comment on the proposed work. The deadline to comment is June 21, 2004. Written comments should be directed to Jim Stengle, Environmental Resources Branch, by writing to: District Engineer, U.S. Army Corps of Engineer District, Portland, ATTN: CENWP-PM-E, P.O. Box 2946, Portland, Oregon 97208-2946. The EA is posted on the Corps' web site at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/pm/e. Copies of the EA also may be requested by calling Stengle at (503) 808-4772 or by e-mailing him at James.B.Stengle@usace.army.mil.

The Corps is soliciting input from NOAA Fisheries, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife to help evaluate the impacts of the proposed activities on endangered species, cultural resources, water quality, general environmental effects and other public interest factors. At this point, however, the Corps does not expect long-term negative impacts.
