Corps reports small hydraulic fluid spill at Bonneville

Portland, Ore. - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reporting a hydraulic fluid spill of about one-half cup that was contained in Powerhouse 2 at Bonneville Dam today.

A high-pressure line began to leak as maintenance crews were testing connections on a headgate being installed on Unit 16 at about 10 a.m.

The crew immediately stopped the leak. The crew performing the testing covered the oil drip with absorbent rags and collected the majority of the oil, but approximately one-half cup of hydraulic oil dripped onto the water surface in Unit 16 scroll case.

Crews have repaired the leak from the high-pressure line.

The oil spill is contained in the powerhouse and will be recovered when crews are able to water up the unit. The recovery will take place in about two days once other maintenance is performed.

The Corps notified federal and state officials.
