John Day navigation lock to close Dec. 12

PORTLAND, Ore. — The navigation lock at the John Day Dam facility will close to river traffic Dec. 12 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to install instrumentation on the downstream lift gate machinery, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers announced today.

The closure will allow the Corps to gather data on the navigation lock’s machinery, which will help the Corps prepare for repairs scheduled in March 2008.

The John Day Lock and Dam is located at exit 109 off Interstate 84. At this time no part of the dam is open for public access.
