PORTLAND, Ore. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will celebrate American Ingenuity and honor the 70th anniversary of the dedication of Bonneville Lock and Dam, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 29 and 30.
Park rangers and guest speakers will host free presentations on the third floor of the Bradford Island Visitor Center throughout the weekend.
Find out what it takes to make electricity during a presentation at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 29. Then, at 2 p.m., enjoy Woody Guthrie’s Columbia River songs performed by The Wanderers. The songs and stories were written by Guthrie specifically for the Bonneville Power Administration.
Park rangers will portray fictional characters focusing on the merits of using electricity in a living history presentation at 11 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 30.
Rodney Aho, Bonneville Power Administration public utilities specialist, will present, “The Role of the Bonneville Power Administration in the Northwest Power Grid,” at 2 p.m., Sept. 30.
In addition to the special presentations, park rangers will lead scheduled tours of the historic Powerhouse I. Be sure to visit the navigation lock between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., and as always, see Herman, the 10-foot long sturgeon, from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Bonneville Fish Hatchery.
