The Dalles Dam navigation lock closed from Nov. 5 through Nov. 12

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close the navigation lock at The Dalles Dam to river traffic from 7 a.m., Nov. 5 to 7 p.m., Nov. 12 for inspection and repairs.

The navigation lock, located at river mile 191 on the Columbia River, will be inspected, instrumentation will be installed and interim repairs made to the downstream miter gate. A miter gate is the interlocking gate that closes to allow water to fill the navigation lock so vessels may travel upstream or downstream.

River traffic also may experience delays on Nov. 1, when U.S. Army divers will clean the area in preparation for the closure on Nov. 5. Although the divers will try to work between vessels locking through, some delays of up to one hour may occur, depending on the conditions the workers encounter.

The Dalles Lock and Dam visitor center will remain open during the lock closure. The visitor center is located at Seufert Park on the Oregon shore off exit 87 of Interstate 84.
