PORTLAND, Ore. – The winter recreational vessel lockage schedule for the Columbia River will begin Sunday, Sept. 16 and continue through May 14, 2008.
Recreational vessels may lock through on request and during daylight hours only at all Portland District navigation locks on the Columbia River, which are Bonneville at river mile 145, The Dalles at river mile 191 and John Day at river mile 216.
Commercial vessels continue to have precedence over recreational vessels; however, both may lock through together at the discretion of the lock operator.
All vessel owners and operators lock through at their own risk, and must comply with the lock operator and the Corps’ safe lockage policy. Everyone onboard the vessel must be wearing a personal floatation device while locking through. The lock operator has final authority on the suitability of a vessel for lockage.
Recreational vessel lockage schedules, the safe lockage policy and the Corps’ brochure "How To Lock Through," are available on the Internet at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/s/nl/.
