The Corps is leading efforts to remove polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) contaminated sediment from an area just upriver from the Bonneville Dam spillway, along the shores of Bradford Island. This contaminated sediment is the result of the disposal of electrical equipment on the island and in the Columbia River possibly in the late 1960s. The Corps removed the electrical debris and sampled sediment in the area in 2002. Sediment removal activities in the river adjacent to Bradford Island are scheduled to begin in early October.
