Corps reviews permit applications from Fort Hill and Government Camp, Ore.

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing two applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding the permit applications listed here were issued during the week of July 23, 2007.

Public Notice NWP-2007-570, requested by the Oregon Department of Transportation. The project is located on Oregon Highway 18 near Fort Hill, Ore. The applicant proposes to widen the highway from two lanes to four, install a median, as well as new construction, to include a new interchange and overpass, new roadside ditches, culverts and guardrails. The proposed action would improve highway safety and improve traffic and freight mobility. Comments must be received by Aug. 27, 2007. A copy of the public notice may be found at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

Public Notice NWP-2005-305-2, requested by Mount Hood, LLC. The project is located in Collins Lake wetlands in Government Camp, Ore. The applicant was previously granted a permit to excavate and grade 0.9 acre of Collins Lake to deepen it by about 3 feet; to construct two sediment detention basins as well as impacting 0.006 acre of palustrine emergent wetland for temporary access. The current request would permanently impact 0.474 acre and temporarily impact 0.345 acre of wetlands. The proposed action would expand Collins Lake Lodges by constructing the West Lodges, an access road, a business/real estate office and an exercise room. Comments must be received by Aug. 29, 2007. A copy of the public notice may be found at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp.

The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public, federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes and other interested parties on these permit requests.

The Corps of Engineers will issue or deny any permit under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.

If the applicants have submitted a mitigation plan with the permit request, it will be considered. If a permit is issued, the Corps will decide on the appropriate and practicable compensatory mitigation for each proposed project.
