PORTLAND, Ore. -- Recreation facilities will open at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects in western Oregon and southwest Washington for the summer season, which is generally between Memorial Day and Labor Day.
Portland District operates many projects with recreation facilities throughout the area, so information is presented in geographically-related segments in a separate news release.
The detailed news release includes operating hours, available facilities and a description of each area owned and/or operated by the Corps. This release, number 07-064, is available at, https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/pa/news/home.asp.
Funding for Corps of Engineers missions is severely limited nationwide, requiring reductions in all routine activities. As a result, the Corps prioritized its funding regionally and nationwide.
To adjust to budget constraints and to keep the majority of the recreation sites open, the Corps has reduced janitorial services, grounds maintenance and interpretive and water safety programs. The Corps will review all avenues available during the next fiscal year prior to making any decisions about future operations or reductions in service.
