Corps to host Great Electrifying Event at Bonneville Lock and Dam

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Bonneville Lock and Dam will host its annual Great Electrifying Event, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 24. The interpretive staff at Bonneville along with special guest speakers will provide educational programs on the topics of power production and transmission.

Special presentations will be conducted throughout the day in the main theater of the Bradford Island Visitor Center. These presentations will focus on the principles of electricity, magnetism, and the inner workings of hydroelectric power production and transmission. Activities will also include short films as well as guided tours of Bonneville’s first powerhouse. Children and adults are welcome to attend all events.

Visitors to the facilities may also see the navigation lock and the Bonneville Fish Hatchery, home to Herman, the 10-foot sturgeon. Bonneville’s Washington Shore Visitor Center is accessible from Washington State Highway 14, however, the Great Electrifying Event will only be presented in the Bradford Island Visitor Center on the Oregon side of Bonneville.

The Bradford Island Visitor Center is located at exit 40 on Interstate 84. Admission is free and the visitor center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
