Corps announces 2002 recreation season lockage schedule on Columbia River

Portland, Ore.-The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, announced the 2002 recreational lockage schedule for recreational vessels on the Columbia River for the upcoming recreation season from May 15 through September 15.

When a recreational vessel lockage schedule is in effect, recreational vessels will only be allowed to lock through at the times designated for such lockages and they will take precedence over commercial vessels. Commercial vessels will continue to be locked through upon arrival except for times designated for recreational lockage. At the discretion of the lock master, recreational vessels may be allowed to lock through with commercial craft.

Lockage times are the same at all Corps operated locks in the Columbia and Snake rivers. Upstream lockages are at 9 a.m., 12:01 p.m., 3 p.m., 6 p.m., and 9 p.m. Downstream lockages are at 9:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 3:30, p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 9:30 p.m.

Consideration will be given for special lockages for flotillas or other organized events sponsored by yacht clubs, marinas, and other groups, provided advance arrangements are made with the appropriate location.

Vessel owners/operators lock through at their own risk. The lock master has final authority on the suitability of a craft for lockage.
