Corps reviews permit applications from Salem, Albany and Toledo, Ore

PORTLAND, Ore. — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is reviewing three applications requesting a Department of the Army permit for certain work in waters of the United States. The public notices regarding the permit applications listed here were issued during the week of Dec. 5, 2005.

Public Notice 200500652, requested by Cascadia Development. The project is located east of the intersection of Reed and Strong roads in Salem, Ore. The project’s purpose is to provide commercial space for office and warehouse building use, which will require placing fill in 0.59 acre of wetland. Comments must be received by Jan. 5, 2006. Public Notice 200400516, requested by Absolute General Contracting. The project is located in wetlands adjacent to Truax Creek in Albany, Ore. The project’s purpose is to construct 30 additional residential lots to Somerset Subdivision, which will result in placing fill material in 0.42 acre of wetlands. Comments must be received by Jan. 5, 2006. A copy of the public notice may be found at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/docs/notices/200400516.pdf.

Public Notice 200500627, requested by Lincoln County Parks. The project is located in the Yaquina River near Toledo, Ore. The project’s purpose is to replace an existing boat ramp and boarding float, which will result in excavating 42 cubic yards of concrete, 370 cubic yards of silt and 37 cubic yards of rock and riprap. Comments must be received by Jan. 6, 2006. A copy of the public notice may be found at https://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/docs/notices/200500627.pdf.

The Corps of Engineers is soliciting comments from the public, federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes and other interested parties on these permit requests.

The Corps of Engineers will issue or deny any permit under authority of Section 404 of the Clean Water Act, for discharge of dredged or fill material into U.S. waters, and/or under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.

If the applicants have submitted a mitigation plan with the permit request, it will be considered. If a permit is issued, the Corps will decide on the appropriate and practicable compensatory mitigation for each proposed project.
